MMR Recognized as Corporate Leader in Providing Employee Cancer Care Services

BATON ROUGE, LA – MMR is proud to share that it was highlighted as a corporate leader in providing cancer care services to its employees and community by the Association of Cancer Care Centers (ACCC). MMR Marketing Director Amber Leach was invited to speak at the Association of Cancer Care Centers’ 50th Annual Meeting and Cancer Center Business Summit (ACCMBS), held in Washington, D.C. on February 28- March 1.

Leach joined Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Vice President, Cancer Support and Outreach, Renea Austin-Duffin in leading a panel at the conference discussing screenings and programs provided by organizations to ensure the wellbeing of their workforce, highlighting the impact of the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center On-the-Go Workplace Program.

“Knowing Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s outstanding reputation within our community, and the fact that the program aligned with our company’s mission to provide enhanced healthcare benefits to employees, MMR became an early supporter of the On-the-Go Workplace Program,” said Leach. “Over the last five years, over 630 of our employees have been screened for skin, breast and oral cancers, with an astonishing 55% who reported they had never received a screening before. The On-the-Go Workplace Program saves lives.”

ACCMBS hosted industry insiders, health policy experts and key influencers in cancer care delivery to explore the convergence of business, policy and technology. Attendees explored cutting-edge solutions to persistent cancer care challenges and heard from executives from across the health care leadership community.

MMR joined Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center as a corporate sponsor in 2019 and was named a Partner of Compassion in 2022. MMR’s support of the On-the-Go Program to provide on-site, physician-led cancer education sessions and cancer screenings conducted at MMR’s offices in Baton Rouge, Belle Chasse and Broussard. In just the first year, MMR witnessed the life-saving benefits of joining the program when 135 employees were screened for oral and skin cancers, resulting in 9 employees with abnormal findings, leading to 3 cancer diagnoses.

MMR has assisted Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center expanding this life-saving program by serving as the anchor sponsor to create a permanent endowment within the Cancer Center Foundation. The Holly Hollis Stars Endowment honors dear friend and coworker, Holly Hollis Stars, who lost her life to cancer, and directly supports the efforts of the On-the-Go Program by bringing on-site cancer prevention and education efforts to underserved groups in the Baton Rouge community.
