MMR Receives National Recognition from ABC for Construction Excellence and Safety

March 20, 2026

MMR Group has been recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) with both a National Excellence in Construction Eagle Award and a National Health and Safety Excellence Award.

The Excellence in Construction (EIC) Award recognizes outstanding construction projects across the country, honoring contractors for exceptional project performance, craftmanship, safety, and innovation. The Eagle Award represents the highest level of recognition within the program.

“Receiving national recognition from ABC for both Construction Excellence and Safety is a meaningful reflection of the standard our teams bring to every project,” James B. ‘Pepper’ Rutland, MMR President/CEO stated. “At MMR, our mission is to build the most complex electrical and instrumentation projects, and honors like these reinforce our commitment to delivering that work with the highest level of craftmanship, innovation, and safety.”

In addition to project excellence, MMR also received a National Health and Safety Excellence Award, recognizing companies that demonstrate strong safety performance and a continued commitment to maintaining a culture of safety across their operations.

“Communities thrive when infrastructure is built and rebuilt with excellence, just like these projects completed by the team at MMR Group,” said 2026 Chair of the ABC National Board of Directors Thomas “Murph” Murphy, vice president of Power & Construction Group. “These projects are an example of ABC members’ remarkable achievements in leadership, safety, innovation and merit. Congratulations to MMR Group for showcasing the pinnacle of construction excellence.”

The awards were presented as part of ABC’s Annual Excellence in Construction Awards Gala in Salt Lake City, Utah, which celebrated the nation’s most outstanding construction projects and contractors for their achievements in safety, quality, and leadership.

Winning Projects:

Dow Eagleray Project – Boiler Electrical and Instrumentation – Plaquemine, LA

The DOW Eagleray Project was a large-scale electrical and instrumentation installation executed by MMR, covering lighting, communications, control systems, and major electrical equipment. The team installed over 34,000 feet of raceway and more than 250,000 feet of cable while maintaining a zero‑recordable safety record. With 100% self‑performed labor and more than 61,000 work hours, MMR delivered high-quality results through disciplined planning and strong collaboration with DOW.

Valero – East Plant Turnaround – St. Charles, LA

MMR’s work on the Valero East Plant Turnaround project represents one of the largest and most technically complex events undertaken at the facility in recent years. MMR's scope was substantial, spanning across multiple disciplines, work zones and phases of execution. Work included comprehensive electrical and instrumentation support from temporary power and substation maintenance to PLC, communication, and fiber‑optic upgrades. Self-performing 100% of the work, the team delivered custom‑fabricated panels, extensive raceway and cable installations, and enhanced grounding and lightning protection. This scope reflects MMR’s ability to support complex turnaround needs with precision and reliability.
