MMR Receives Eagle Award from Associated Builders and Contractors, Garners National Recognition for Exceptional Project Performance

BATON ROUGE, LA – MMR was recognized for its exceptional project and safety performance at the 34th Annual National Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Excellence in Construction Awards Gala.

ABC presented MMR with an Eagle Award, the highest honor a project can achieve, for its work on the River Birch Landfill – C12 Expansion Project, in Avondale, La, as well as a Diamond STEP Award, presented for outstanding safety practices. In December, MMR’s River Birch Landfill – C12 Expansion Project in Avondale, LA, was named the best overall project by the ABC Bayou Chapter of New Orleans.

ABC’s world-class STEP safety management system awards companies for maintaining exceptional safety standards. MMR’s Diamond Level achievement represents an exceptional level of safety that ranks significantly higher than the industry average.

The ABC National Excellence in Construction Awards Gala celebrates superiority in merit shop construction, recognizing over 130 member companies from across the country. The gala, held in Kissimmee, Fl. during the ABC Convention, honored the year’s most outstanding construction projects and contractors for extraordinary achievements in leadership, safety, innovation, inclusion, diversity and equity.

MMR was also honored to send Journeyman John Slocum to compete in the 2024 ABC National Construction Craft Competition, held during the convention. Slocum competed in the Electrical category and is the first employee to represent MMR at the national competition. In addition to his work at MMR, Slocum completed ABC Pelican Chapter’s Electrical Program through its training center in Baton Rouge, La.

River Birch Landfill – C12 Expansion Project, Avondale, LA

Eagle Award, ABC National

In May 2023, MMR proudly completed the C12 Expansion Project at the River Birch Landfill's Gas Purification Plant in Avondale, La. MMR was selected by River Birch to spearhead the electrical and instrumentation aspect of the C12 Expansion Project. MMR’s responsibilities encompassed the full spectrum of electrical and instrumentation installation, including electrical equipment, raceways, cable pulling, terminations, gas and smoke detection systems, lightning protection, custom enclosures, instrumentation, grounding lighting and motor control centers.

ABC National Craft Competition:

The 35th annual National Craft Championships showcased the skills and expertise of nearly 190 of the nation’s best craft professionals in trades such as carpentry, electrical, HVAC, millwright, power line, welding and more, all vying for top honors in 16 competitions with skills on display in 12 crafts. NCC celebrates and recognizes upskilling in construction, draws some of the country’s most talented craft professionals and highlights the important role that craft skills training plays in the construction industry.
