MMR Receives ABC Awards of Excellence, Merit for Exceptional Project Performance

BATON ROUGE, La.— MMR is proud to announce its recognition from the Baton Rouge and New Orleans chapters of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) for exceptional performance on several notable projects throughout the U.S.

MMR received four Excellence Awards, the highest honor a project can achieve, one Merit Award, the second highest honor a project can achieve, and a Diamond STEP Award, presented for outstanding safety practices. MMR’s River Birch Landfill – C12 Expansion Project in Avondale, LA, was named the best overall project by the ABC Bayou Chapter of New Orleans.

The ABC Excellence in Construction Awards recognize highly innovative and outstanding construction projects as well as world-class safety, inclusion diversity and equity programs. MMR’s winning projects below have been nominated for national recognition in March at the 34th Annual ABC National Convention in Kissimmee, FL.

Winning Projects:

River Birch Landfill – C12 Expansion Project, Avondale, LA

In May 2023, MMR proudly completed the C12 Expansion Project at the River Birch Landfill's Gas Purification Plant in Avondale, La. MMR was selected by River Birch to spearhead the electrical and instrumentation aspect of the C12 Expansion Project. MMR’s responsibilities encompassed the full spectrum of electrical and instrumentation installation, including electrical equipment, raceways, cable pulling, terminations, gas and smoke detection systems, lightning protection, custom enclosures, instrumentation, grounding lighting and motor control centers.

Nucor – Melt Shop Project, Brandenburg, KY

MMR was contracted in January 2022 by Nucor Steel for a unique project to provide construction management, execution and commissioning assistance for the electrical portion of their new state-of-the-art steel plate mill in Brandenburg, KY. MMR was contracted to complete the Melt Shop; which consisted of the electric arc furnace, ladle metallurgy furnace, vacuum tank degasser, raw material handling and the continuous casting machine.

Along with the Melt Shop, MMR was contracted to complete the heat treat line and baghouse located in other areas of the facility. In addition, MMR completed the 13.8kV medium voltage power distribution cabling, testing, terminations, and pull calculations throughout the entire site.

Drake Temporary Natural Gas Generation, Colorado Springs, CO

Merit Award, ABC Pelican Chapter

MMR was contracted to install six fast startup, multi-fuel, peaking load generators as a clean alternative to the capacity of a recently decommissioned power plant in downtown Colorado Springs, Co. MMR self-performed the electrical construction work with a peak workforce of 64 employees.

MMR’s scope of work included start-up assistance and the installation of aluminum cable tray, rigid conduit, single conductor, multiconductor, cable and stress cones termination kits, cable bus, instrument cable, fiber optic cable and terminators, switchgear and motor control centers and heat trace.

ABC’s world-class STEP safety management system awards companies for maintaining exceptional safety standards. MMR is proud to announce its Diamond Level achievement, maintaining an exceptional level of safety that ranks significantly higher than the industry average.
