March 26, 2018

BATON ROUGE, La. – MMR earned national distinction at the 28th annual Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Excellence in Construction awards program, receiving an Eagle Award for the IFCo Nitrogen Fertilizer Project in Wever, Ia., and a Pyramid Award for the Bunge North America Dock Expansion Project in Destrehan, La.

“It is quite an honor to be recognized amongst our industry peers for exceeding expectations in quality, safety and project delivery,” said MMR President/CEO James “Pepper” Rutland. “The IFCo Nitrogen Fertilizer Project and Bunge North America Dock Expansion Project showcase MMR’s unique ability to successfully serve a wide range of clients in the oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical, power generation and agricultural industries.”

The Excellence in Construction awards program was held March 21, at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center in Long Beach, Ca. It is the premier awards competition for the construction industry, honoring both general and specialty contractors for innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.

A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year's panel included representatives from the Building Owners and Managers Association International, the Smithsonian Facilities Construction Division, the Construction Management Association of America, Engineering News-Record, Design-Build Institute of America and various construction-related firms nationwide.

The IFCo (Nitrogen Fertilizer Company) Nitrogen Fertilizer Project received the highest honor of an Eagle Award. The IFCo Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant is one of the largest fertilizer plants in the world at over 1.5 million metric tons of products produced each year. The $3.7 billion project included an ammonia plant, nitric acid plant, UAN plant, product storage, loading and OSBL facilities. MMR was responsible for successfully executing the pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities for all disciplines of construction on the project. Upon successful start-up, MMR stayed on to support operations, assist in training and help the plant develop maintenance and reliability plans.

The Bunge North America Dock Expansion Project received the second highest honor with a Pyramid Award. The project involved building a new grain shipping system, including a new outbound conveyor system, foundations, dock, associated marine works, and electrical and instrumentation installation. As the electrical and instrumentation subcontractor on the project, MMR installed 110 thousand feet of conduit, 505 thousand feet of cable, 6 MCC units, 21 switch gears, 8 transformers, 16 PLC panels and 352 light fixtures.
