MMR Recognizes National Cancer Prevention Month, Supports the Mission of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Offers Employees Cancer Prevention Education and Screenings

BATON ROUGE, La. – MMR was proud to partner with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center during February’s National Cancer Prevention Month, supporting the organization’s 50th Anniversary Give Day Campaign and mission to provide continued cancer services to thousands of patients and their families across southeast Louisiana and southwest Mississippi. Throughout February, MMR brought cancer awareness, education and screenings to its employees in Louisiana through Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s Prevention on the Go – Workplace Program.
“As a long-term cancer patient myself, I know firsthand the burden cancer places on individuals and their families,” said Jonathan Bruser, MMR Senior Vice President, Project Development. “We recognize and give thanks to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center for serving as an invaluable resource in our community over the past 50 years.”
On February 16, Mary Bird Perkins’ Give Day fundraising campaign commemorated the Cancer Center’s 50th anniversary and collected over $103,000 in funds to provide critical cancer care and support within the community. MMR was proud to serve as a Power Hour sponsor during the morning and afternoon hours to encourage giving and unlock additional support.
MMR also provided cancer prevention and education sessions and free, on-site skin cancer screenings at its Baton Rouge, Belle Chasse and Broussard offices through the Mary Bird Perkins Prevention on the Go – Workplace Program. Area dermatologists screened 70 MMR employees for skin cancer, and 9 employees with abnormal findings were referred to a specialty clinic and assisted by a Cancer Center nurse navigator to receive special support and guidance.
“MMR’s commitment to ensuring the health of its employees and supporting community cancer care is a gift that touches countless lives,” said Todd Stevens, President and CEO, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “It takes all of us working together to advance the fight against cancer. We are grateful for MMR’s partnership and applaud its unwavering dedication and support of the MMR workforce.”
MMR has participated in Mary Bird Perkins Prevention on the Go – Workplace Program since 2018, which brings early detection, education and screenings to worksites. After one year of involvement and first-hand witness of their care and compassion, MMR joined Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center as a corporate sponsor. MMR has since provided on-site skin cancer, oral cancer and breast cancer screenings as well as tobacco cessation counseling to employees in the Greater Baton Rouge area and across South Louisiana.
