MMR Receives Several Awards for Outstanding Safety Performance in Corpus Christi, Texas

June 12, 2018

BATON ROUGE, La. – The MMR Corpus Christi Branch received several notable awards at the 26th Annual South Texas Industrial Industry Awards Banquet at the Solomon P. Ortiz International Center, in Corpus Christi, Texas, on June 7th.

MMR received the 2017 Contractor Safety Excellence Award from the Contractors Safety Council of the Coastal Bend and the Port Industries of Corpus Christi. This award recognizes outstanding safety performance and exemplary safety programs. The award is intended to convey strong support of contractor safety performance in full recognition of the fact that contractors have the primary responsibility for execution of on-site safety, working in conjunction with the owner, architects, and engineers, to ensure an overall safe workplace.

MMR also received the 2018 ABC STEP Diamond Award. The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) is a safety benchmarking and improvement tool that measures safety performance among construction industry participants. MMR has been a recipient of the STEP Diamond Award annually since 2012.

Additionally, MMR's Corpus Christi District was acknowledged for its OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Site recognition at Kiewit Offshore Services. OSHA's VPP Star status is considered to be the pinnacle of excellence in safety. Of the 76,000 electrical contractors in the nation, MMR is one of only 12 that can claim VPP status. MMR is the largest open-shop contractor with VPP standing and has upheld its Star status since 2013.

“Building a safety-minded culture is imperative at MMR, and I am proud of our employees at the Corpus Christi Branch for their safety-first attitude,” said MMR President/CEO James B. “Pepper” Rutland.
