September 16, 2020
BATON ROUGE, La. – MMR is excited to announce its latest construction contract, the Western Spirit Transmission Line, in partnership with EC Source, a wholly owned subsidiary of MasTec, Inc. The 165-mile, 345 kilovolt transmission line will deliver approximately 1,000 megawatts of new wind power to the existing grid in northwestern New Mexico, supplying enough energy to power approximately 590,000 homes.
“MMR is excited to deliver such an important clean energy project to the residents of New Mexico,” said MMR Senior Vice President Jonathan Bruser. “Western Spirit will strengthen New Mexico’s grid and enhance its ability to run on renewable power.”
MMR Constructors and EC Source are responsible for the construction of the transmission line, which is directly interconnected to the 1,000 megawatt Mesa Canyons Wind Farm. The Western Spirit Transmission Line and Mesa Canyons Wind Farm are currently owned and being developed by Pattern Energy and the New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority (RETA). After an anticipated construction completion in the fourth quarter of 2021, Western Spirit will be acquired by the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM).
