MMR Receives ABC Diamond STEP Awards for Outstanding Safety Program Achievements

November 12, 2020

BATON ROUGE, La.— MMR is proud to announce it has been recognized with several Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Diamond STEP awards. MMR’s West Coast Division and its Corpus Christi district were recognized for the development and execution of quality safety programs in 2020. Additionally, MMR Group achieved Diamond status in the ABC STEP Safety Management System in June 2020. A Diamond designation is the highest rating a company can receive for its safety program and practices.

“MMR is committed to consistently raising the bar when it comes to safety performance, and we are proud of our Corpus Christi and West Coast districts for their ABC STEP Diamond designation,” said MMR President/CEO James “Pepper” Rutland.

STEP applicants measure their safety processes and policies on 25 key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing or enhancing safety programs that reduce jobsite incidents. In addition to effective training, programs and policies, MMR Corpus Christi has recorded 885 thousand work hours in 2020 and has a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of 0.00. MMR West Coast Division has recorded 351 thousand work hours and has a TRIR of 0.00.

According to ABC’s annual Safety Performance Report, applying STEP processes dramatically improves safety performance among participants regardless of company size or type of work, and can reduce recordable incidents up to 85%, making the best performing companies 680% safer than the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average. Ratings range from Diamond, the highest, to Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Participant.
