MMR President/CEO Pepper Rutland Honored at LSU Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

January 14, 2016

The LSU Tiger Athletic Foundation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the Rathjen & Rutland Families Gate (Gate 8) at Tiger Stadium in honor of former student athlete and President/CEO of MMR Pepper Rutland as well as student athletes Craig Rathjen (Football 83-85) and Donna Rogers Rathjen (Gymnastics 83-85).

The gate represents a million dollars of support to LSU Athletics and recognizes the Rutland and the Rathjen families for their ongoing commitment to the university and the Baton Rouge community.

Rutland played football for the LSU Tigers as an outside linebacker and was the defensive team captain. Rutland was also a member of the All Southeastern Conference (SEC) Academic Team in 1972. He is also a proud member of the first graduating class from LSUs Construction Technology program, now known as the Construction Management program.

The 1972 alumnus credits much of his success to the knowledge and work ethic he gained during his tenure at LSU and the importance it played in helping to establish a strong foundation for his career as founder and president/CEO of MMR.

Rutland is involved in a number of initiatives to support his community and alma mater. He is the founding member and owner of the Miracle League at Cypress Mounds, which is a nonprofit organization created to provide opportunities for children with disabilities to play baseball, regardless of their abilities. LSUs men and womens baseball teams mentor and assist children in the Miracle League.

Rutland was also recently inducted into the LSU College of Engineering Society for Engineering Excellence. His contributions will establish two new engineering laboratories: a building simulation and information modeling studio, and an advanced materials and methods laboratory. These state-of-the-art learning spaces will help to better prepare its students for successful employment in the construction industry.

Additionally, Rutland is an active board member of the Charles McClendon Scholarship Foundation at LSU, which financially enables children of former LSU football players to receive a college education.
